Fixing Delilah by Sarah Ockler

Fixing Delilah

Things in Delilah Hannaford's life have a tendency to fall apart.
She used to be a good student, but she can't seem to keep it together anymore. Her "boyfriend" isn't much of a boyfriend. And her mother refuses to discuss the fight that divided their family eight years ago. Falling apart, it seems, is a Hannaford tradition.
Over a summer of new friendships, unexpected romance, and moments that test the complex bonds between mothers and daughters, Delilah must face her family's painful past. Can even her most shattered relationships be pieced together again?
Rich with emotion, Sarah Ockler delivers a powerful story of family, love, and self-discovery.

So, here I am. Finished. Finished reading the book I mean.
Before I start with my review, I want to share something with you guys.
Recently I have been going through a phase where no book seem to.....
'connect' with me. If You understand what I mean, then you'll realise how hard that is for a book lover. So thats how I started Fixing Delilah.
I was weary and had no expectation. Well, boy did this book prove me wrong.

This a story about, in my view, a girl who reconnects with all the important people in her life and at the same time experiences new feelings and experiences. There have been some books that I have read that you just read for the sake of reading but this book was definitely not it. It had raw emotion and Del's voice rang out clearly throughout the book. She had questions which weren't being answered and the ones close to her were keeping secrets. Her social life wasn't all that great especially her concerning her friends and 'boyfriend'. If that wasn't enough, Love had to come knocking on the door just when it wasn't expected.

I LOVED this book. Ms Ockler, you have a talent for writing. You write as if its everyday stuff without no complications. Your writing flows effortlessly and that is, to me, the biggest asset to a writer.
I connected with Del. Yes, I know I've used that word a lot but what can I say. At times I felt she was whiny but felt as frustrated as her when her family kept their moths shut and wouldn't give answers. When secrets were being revealed and confessions were happening, I felt as shocked as her but felt she had every right to express her anger. OH, THE ROMANCE. Finally, some decent romance. I'd describe it to you but why ruin the surprise.

So anyway, If you have not read this book, I command you (kidding) to get off your... bum and go read this book...... please! (>_<)

Favourite Quotes:
"We all long for what could have been."

"It‘s complicated. I think when bad things happen—whether someone dies or people argue or split up—you get to a point where it‘s just too hard to go back. There‘s so much lost. So many versions of the truth. So many versions of how things might‘ve turned out differently. We all long for what could have been. For some people, it‘s just easier to move forward and try to forget."

"In your entire life, you can probably count your true friends on one hand. Maybe even on one finger. Those are the friends you need to cherish, and I wouldn't trade one of them for a hundred of the other kind. I'd rather be completely alone than with a bunch of people who aren't real. People who are just passing time."
