Touch By Jus Accardo

Touch (Denazen, #1)

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.

The synopsis has everything in a book that I want to read. Kick-ass girl, mysterious boy, paranormal powers, secret organisation and a glued-to-you-seat story.

But I will say I had mixed feelings to this. Lets start with the good.

The Good:

The story: The whole premise was very interesting. Secret organisation, 'collecting' and training special individuals with powers, is run by an evil, sinister man who is the father of our heroine, Dez. Dez is, of course, unaware of all this. She lives her life to the max, often involving danger, just to get the attention of her distant father. Enter mysterious boy who has an amazing but sick power that affects everyone but Dez and finally, the heroine gets involved in all this risky business herself.

Kale was, overall, my favourite character. I loved seeing things through his eyes as, in a way, everything was new for him. His love for Dez was very deep and his possessiveness was cute.

See, all the above are signs of a good story. It could be highly interesting. And it was. Some parts of it.

The Bad:

I felt the romance was, although sweet, was kind of fast. Dez and Kale click, maybe because Dez is the only person he can touch, and bam, it's love. I don't know guys, I mean, there were many awwww bits but it was just a bit too fast for me.

Dez could be a bit impulsive and made a few stupid decision, like every other heroine but was strong, so it was all good.

Overall:

It's the first book in the series, so maybe it'll get better and we go along. It usually does. I think. I will say I'm looking forward to the next book and can't wait to see what's happening next.

The Immortal Ones by Julie Kagawa

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1)

In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die… or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.

This is my first ever Julie Kagawa book. It will certainly not be my last.

The story starts with an introduction to Allison (Allie) Sekemoto. She lives in a world riddled with plague, controlled by vampires and crawling with rabids. But her world is more complicated then that. There is a system in this world but I'm not gonna go into details. Just remember this.
~Vamps R Best, Non-Bloodsuckers Aren't~

Should I make a list of words to describe Allie, because I will never be able to talk about her in one paragraph.

Strong/Brave/Sarcastic/Humorous/Kind/Witty/kick-ass/troubled/trustful/impulsive/hunter/loner/Beautiful( I think so)

Allie, at the start, hates the Bloodsuckers with passion. She lives as a Unregistered, a nobody, who has to fend for herself in those harsh conditions. Survive, Eat and stay out of trouble are her everyday routines.
But not for long. Circumstances lead to her being attacked by rabids and so she lay there on the verge of death when she is given the ultimate choice by a surprising ally. You guessed it, a vampire.
Choose to die, or become a vampire? (Which is still death both ways because Vamps are dead too.) So, yeah she chooses to become what she hates the most. I was kind of, I don't know, a bit annoyed here. I mean, at the start all Allie does is say that she hates the Vamps, how he loathes them, how they ruined her life etc. etc. but then she chooses to become one. After a good long think I decided she did make the right decision. If I was given that choice, I would've probably made the same choice as her. You are still ALIVE, not DEAD, and yeah, being a vampire could be hard but I'd adjust. Wouldn't I?

Her savior Kanin, takes her under his wing and basically grooms her into becoming a Vampire. That includes history lessons, survival lessons and combat lessons. How to hunt and feed the 'Hunger' was also in the package. One word describes Kanin. Mysterious. Even though Allie does spend months with him, she know very little about him or the work he does. He's a brilliant teacher, harsh but soft at the same time, not giving her futile hope, telling her she is a monster. But overall, she knows nothing. But when she does find out something, something big, she does have to make the decision of, can she trust him?

Her time comes to an end with Kanin and she begins her journey alone. Alone is death if you're a human but when you're a Vampire, nothing much worries you except having something to drink, once in a while.
She meets interesting people during her road trip but the most interesting of all, Ezekiel Cross aka Zeke.

I think I should do another list, especially for him.

Kind/Brave/Strong/Gorgeous/Witty/Humorous//leader/secretive/affectionate/kick-ass/
Basically PURE IMAGINARY PERFECT BUT TROUBLED BOY. As you've noticed Allie and Zeke's descriptions are very similar, maybe because in a crazy way, they are both very alike. Their romance is perfect. Not insta-love people, my fans know I hate that.Ha.

There are a few things I want to talk about though, before I finish.
Julie's writing is absolutely a thrill to read. I mean, so descriptive, so brilliantly put that you just flow along, without any hesitation. Sometime some books lack due to the writing but this book is entirely on an other planet. *Cue clapping here for Julie*

The world the author has created may need another round of applause. A world on the brink of falling, where there is no hope whatsoever. I sometimes felt the frustration of the characters, how much they wanted 'normal' but even I knew that it would take a long, long time for that to happen. The description is vivid, with Julie describing the destruction and gore as if she was describing a piece of pie.

VAMPIRES. God, Julie, are you trying to out-run the other authors on my FAVE-AUTHORS list? I mean you actually created vampires that are, wait-for-it, vampires. You did not make them sparkly, make them drink animal blood, make them 'nice' and again, just for affect, SPARKLY. No, these vampires are monster, the kind of monster you don't ever wanna meet when you go to sleep, the kind that could cut you into pieces by a mere flick of the hand. She made them so realistic, I had to stop a few time when I was reading the book, to look behind me and make sure I was alone. I also liked that there are rules to being a vampire, and one big rule, ladies and gents, vamps and humans do not 'love'. Take that Edward.

I love the cover by the way. It's so..Allie. Oh, yeah, when vamps cry, they cry bloods of tears. Oops. Spoiler alert.

To finish off, I'd like to Thanks Julie Kagawa for writing a vampire book that I am not ashamed to read. I like to thank her for creating a book so realistic, characters so flawed but real and vamps that don't sparkle.

Living for the next book!

5 START PARTY EVERYBODY! WOOOOOO!

Night School By C.J. Daugherty

Night School

Sometimes school is murder.

Allie Sheridan's world is falling apart. She hates her school. Her brother has run away from home. And she's just been arrested.

Again.

This time her parents have finally had enough. They cut her off from her friends and send her away to a boarding school for problem teenagers.

But Cimmeria Academy is no ordinary school. Its rules are strangely archaic. It allows no computers or phones. Its students are an odd mixture of the gifted, the tough and the privileged. And then there's the secretive Night School, whose activities other students are forbidden even to watch.

When Allie is attacked one night the incident sets off a chain of events leading to the violent death of a girl at the summer ball. As the school begins to seem like a very dangerous place, Allie must learn who she can trust. And what's really going on at Cimmeria Academy.

Night School is C.J.Daugherty's first book. It better not be her last or I'll cry.

I've always loved the premise of boarding schools( Thank you Harry Potter) and when I read the description and saw " Boarding school + Out-Of-Control-Girl = Mystery/thriller/romance" I knew I'd had just boarded a roller coaster ride.

Allie's(a seemingly popular name in the world of YA literature) world is turned upside down when she is forced to attend Cimmeria Academy. Well, that's what you get for getting arrested. Again. Her parents are fed up and like every parents does, take extreme measures to make their troubled kid say out of trouble. What's the only solution? Send her to a boarding school far away that nobody's ever heard off. Perfect.

I liked Allie. Scratch that. I loved Allie. So, she's a bit broken at the start. She has her reasons. I mean, nobody does anything for nothing. Her bother had run away from home, for unknown reason, leaving behind him a trail of broken hearts and soon-to-be-arrested-little-sister.

Allie, at the start does not fit in to Cimmeria. At all. First of all, a new student in the middle of the summer holidays, with bright red hair and who seems to attract the attention of the bitchy crowd, screams 'Stay Away'. And, she's managed to attract the attention of Sylvian ( hot, mysterious, french guy) and Carter ( hot, bad-boy, troubled guy). All she needs is a killer on the loose and it'll be Harry Potter: Red-headed Edition. Allie was strong, not running away from what was bringing her down, even though she badly wanted to. But no worries, she fits in after a while. It's always hard at the start. Thanks to Jo, her new friend, and the support from her I-wish-she-was-my-principal, principal, she fits in soon enough. Also, she so sarcastic and witty, so she managed to grab attention with out even trying. She makes mistake, believe me, one of them being Sylvian, but what's a YA story without a mistake-making heroine.

Carter West and Allie's Romance was slow, building gently from hate to friendship to love but it wasn't easy. I mean, hot french guy is playing piggy in the middle. He grabs Allies attention at the start and so cue get-together, lovey-dovey etc. Sylvian was nice and all but I wasn't.. I don't know, he wasn't Carter West for me. Thank god, everything changes after Sylvian tries to commit an unforgivable mistake and is stopped by Allie's secret Knight in Shining Armour. It's so obvious Allie and Carter like each other but half the time they were at each others throat to actually say something else. In other words, sweet tension. hehe.

Her friends were another story. Jo was a ball of mess. She was probably bi-polar and just so confusing. At the end when a terrifying secret was reveled by Jo herself, I saw her a bit differently because She'd been hiding something so important but she'd done it for the sake of the one she thought she loved. I loved Rachel and am praying I find a friend like her.Trustworthy and always there for Allie when she was needed.

Let's not forget about the mystery. I like that the romance was something to turn to but it wasn't what the whole story was about. There is something going on, something that Sylvian and Carter and other students are involved in. Night School. The title says it all. A secret school held and night that teaches certain special students skills, combat/survival etc. to protect the school as well as something else.
When something sinister starts attacking Allie and her school, targeting her for unknown reasons and killing her friends, she knows somehow she's involved and that alot of secrets are being kept from her. When one one her friends is killed and fingers point to her, she knows it's time for some answers.

This book is a whole lot of genres rolled into one. Thriller/mystery/romance/YA.
It might be slow for some but I liked it that way. Everything seemed realistic, not happening so fast and half the time I felt Allie's frustration. No body seemed to tell her anything but she kept getting involved in everything one way or another. Even when I finished the book I realised that Allie doesn't have any answers at all. I mean, why was she sent to Cimmeria? Why does someone want to kill her? What is the reasons behind night school? Why is her mother hiding secrets? And why, the first time in ages she sees her brother, he's the one trying to burn down the school? She still not safe as the book is finishing and has to have body guards protects her all the way back home for the holiday. She needs answers. The only person to ask, her mother.

This book is good, especially for mystery lover but beware, it's addictive. Brilliantly written, the author'd writing was smooth, make the story flow with ease.

Avalon High By Meg Cabot

Avalon High

To newcomer Ellie, Avalon High seems like a typical American high school, complete with jocks, nerds, cheerleaders, and even the obligatory senior class president, quarterback, and all-around good guy. But it doesn't take Ellie long to suspect that something weird is going on beneath the glossy surface of this tranquil hall of learning. As she pieces together the meaning of this unfolding drama, she begins to recognize some haunting Arthurian echoes, causing her to worry that she has become just a pawn in mythic history. A powerful novel by the author of The Princess Diaries.

I read this book during my 'Meg Cabot' phase. I swear, I think I've read nearly all of her YA books. Even Non-YA. Anyway, because I loved Princess Diaries so much, I knew I'd love this too.
I was right.

At the start we are introduced to Ellie, the new girl in town. She has history-crazed parents who are more than enough to handle. All she needs is any more trouble. Enter Will. All round perfect 'popular' boy. But the thing is, he deserves all the fame he gets. He's a proper good hearted person who isn't just liked for his looks but for his personality and actions aswell.  So now, if you combine Ellie, Will, secretive best friends, an evil step-brother and a hit of King Arthur, you get Avalon High.

I liked Ellie. She was funny and I liked reading her thoughts. I liked how she's always helps others even though, clearly, it wasn't any of her business. She was a secret friend to Will, who clearly had issues and soon that led to a few sparks. Good ones that is. Hehe.
Will is just...like every other of Cabot's main leads. *insert every good word there is here*
He has issues, believe me, but is good how he doesn't let them get him down.
The secondary character were bearable but I had a soft spot for her parents.

Finally, I think alot of you know about the shitty Disney Channel movie version of this book. Wow, was it bad or what? Why change the whole story around? When was Marcus (Will's Bro) secretly good? When was the professor evil? Seriously, I need to breathe.

So, overall, I give this book:

5 Stars!

Would You Look At That?

                                   Rapture (Fallen, #4)

Never enjoyed the book series. Meaning I haven't read it but it's just just interest me. Don't interest alot of people according to alot of sites. But I always loved the cover. Just so, so, so very, pretty I suppose. I always liked the dresses. My favourite one is from the first book. The combination of white and blue is gorgeous. Her hair flowing in the wind and the gorgeous rock background fits perfectly. So, pretty. Again.
